Join me at Spring Gardening School this Saturday
...and more spring events you won't want to miss!
If you’re a first-time visitor, welcome! To receive The Weekly Dirt in your inbox every week…
Hi, guys!
I’m entering your inbox mid-week today to invite you to join me at the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s virtual Spring Gardening School on Saturday and tell you about a few other spring gardening events that might interest you.
Spring Gardening School will be held via Zoom this Saturday, March 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (EDT).
I’ll be presenting a program on Uncommon Vegetables to Grow—and How to Eat Them, and will show you how to grow fun and delicious edibles like Peruvian oca, tatsoi, garden huckleberry, bitter melon, beautiful candy-striped Chioggia melon, cucamelons, ice plant, tomatillos — and so many more.
I’ll also be introducing the day’s keynote speaker, New York Times gardening writer Margaret Roach, who will present “Non-Stop Plants: A Garden for 365 Days.”
Once upon a time, Margaret, who was the first garden editor for Martha Stewart Living Magazine, was my predecessor as Newsday’s gardening columnist in the 1990s. Today, she runs the "A Way to Garden" website, newsletter and podcast and has written several wonderful books.
Other programs in the day’s curriculum will include “Why do the How-to’s," "Grow What you Love," "Native Plant ‘Lawn,’ " "Four-Season Garden," "Pollinator Pathway," "Invasive Nightmares," "Olmsted’s Legacy" and "Herbs & Spice."

And, of course, there’s the world-famous Philadelphia Garden Show, which will be held this year from Saturday, June 11 through Sunday, June 19, 2022.!
